Spider Veins

HOUSTON SPIDER VEIN DOCTOR

Spider veins are unsightly. Spider veins are smaller than varicose veins and are common on the legs, feet, chest, and face. Spider veins are similar to varicose veins. They are visible on the surface of the skin and are red, purple, and blue in appearance. The common factors in the development of spider veins include heredity, the aging process, and hormonal influences.

Spider veins sometimes cause symptoms such as pain, itching, or stinging, but rarely lead to more serious medical conditions. Dr. Bardwil knows the various treatment options for treating spider veins to improve the appearance and relieve the discomfort. If you are tired of the discomfort and pain associated with spider veins, don't wait another day to do something about it. Contact Texas Vein and Cosmetic Specialists today and schedule a comprehensive consultation. We can help you decide what the best treatment options are for your spider veins.

TREATMENT FOR SPIDER VEINS

The gold standard for the treatment of spider veins is sclerotherapy. Dr. Bardwil has used two solutions for the past five years. These solutions are glycerin and sotradecol. Polidocanol was recently approved for use in this country and it has recently been integrated into the practice. These solutions are injected into the veins with a very small needle. The solutions destroy and dry up the veins. Support hose are necessary during treatment for this to be effective. It is a process. Patients will usually require two sessions per leg. The goal is significant improvement, evident in the before and after pictures of our patients.

The laser is also used for the treatment of spider veins. The laser energy passes through the skin and penetrates the targeted veins. The energy is absorbed by the blood cells, which in turn heat the vein wall, which collapses the spider veins. Although laser helps rid patients of undesirable leg, face, neck or chest veins, the results with leg veins are less predictable than sclerotherapy. In this practice, it is relegated to an adjunct to sclerotherapy. We are very selective with use of the laser in treating spider veins.

The new kid on the block is the VeinGoghâ„¢. It is a radiofrequency device that utilizes heat to cauterize the spider veins. We have recently implemented it into the practice. The early results are promising. An advantage to this device is that the use of support hose is not required. We are the first in Houston to offer this device to treat spider veins.

The VeinGogh Ohmic Thermolysis System has proven effective, particularly for veins which resist other treatment options such as Laser Therapy and Sclerotherapy. It is also the newest of the three procedures, and unlike the others, the effectiveness of VeinGogh is not affected by skin type, and there is no inherent risk of injury. With its insulated, hair-thin probe, it works well on spider veins located on any part of the body.
